A beach resort on the tropical island of Koh Chang. The resort has its own private beach, a large kiddie pool and much more!

Getting from Bangkok to Koh Chang takes the most part of a day, but as they say: the roads less traveled leads to a great adventure.

The resort is on the western part of the island in Bailan Bay, near Bangbao Fishing Village. Although it’s a distance from the more popular and developed side of the island, the location is ideal for total relaxation.

The Room Types

They have numerous room types, including private pool villas and direct pool access. The pool access rooms are near the entrance of the resort but don’t have a beach view.

I stayed in the 50 m² Deluxe Room. The bedroom is designed in a contemporary style and comfort. There’s a minibar, a flat screen TV, and a dressing table with a large mirror. The wardrobe also has a safe for your valuables, bathrobes, and under the wardrobe there are His & Hers flip flops to use for the duration of your stay.

The private terrace has a view of the beach a few meters away. I do think that it could be made better with more comfortable seating or even sun loungers. That way you could spend more time there. Just make sure you have mosquito repellent on you.

It has a large bathroom with a shower and a comfortable bathtub to soak in. There’s a glass door that you can open between the bathtub and the bedroom. It’s especially useful if you want to laze in the tub, watching TV or talk to your partner without a wall separating each other. Or if you prefer more privacy, just close the roller blind.

The Beach Bar

Ideally located, the Beach Bar is right by the beach with some beanbags to sink into. It’s great for watching the sunset while sipping on cocktails. All this while music in the background sets the mood. They have happy hours in the late afternoon – so make sure you take advantage of it.

The Beach

It’s wonderful that they have this secluded part of the beach, however, it’s not the best beach to swim in. There are some rocky parts and stones which causes you to be more focused on where you’re stepping than relaxing in the water. This wouldn’t be good if you’re traveling with children and it would be much better for them to swim in the pool. It does get better if you go farther in the water. It still doesn’t compare to the more popular beaches like White Sand Beach.

The Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is large enough and has a huge section for children to swim in. I also liked the fact that there were enough sun loungers to go around. Whether admiring the palm trees and beach from the pool, or the lush vegetation around – you’re bound to feel relaxed.

Breakfast

It would be pretty hard to criticize breakfast. They definitely cater for people with as many different tastes as possible. There were some regular dishes that you would find every day at breakfast, and then a few others that would change it up a bit. The cakes and nibbles for those with more of a sweet tooth will also not disappoint.

I especially liked the juice machine where you could make your own fresh drink! I would suggest that they have another coffee machine because there were times that you needed to wait.

Service

One of the the things that impressed me most was the friendliness of the staff. They were always ready to serve you with a smile and nothing was too much of an effort. They were like friends, but in a non intrusive manner. If you had a favorite drink at breakfast, it would already be on your table without having to ask for it. They really show how much they care for their guests and make you feel as comfortable as possible.

If given the opportunity again, I would be more than happy to stay at the Mercure Koh Chang Hideaway resort.
