Dusit Thani Hua Hin

A 5-star beach resort with spacious communal areas and a breakfast with a surprise for Club Members.

Welcome to the Dusit Thani
From the moment I entered the driveway to the Dusit Thani Hua Hin, it felt like I was being transported away to a place far, far away. The long entrance had perfectly manicured lawn and tennis courts on the right.

As I got out of my car, I was greeted with a warm smile from the bell boys who immediately took my luggage and got it ready to take up to my room.
Walking into the main lobby felt almost like stepping back into time; a beautiful chandelier immediately caught my attention and the furniture was of a more eloquent kind. At the front desk they checked my passport and ushered me up to the Dusit Club floor on the 7th floor to complete my check-in.

About the Room
Out of the room types, I would recommend staying in the DUSIT CLUB ROOM. I had the view of the fish pond below, main swimming pool and the ocean. All amenities that you would expect to find in this room type was provided. I liked the fact that there was a shower and bathtub. The bed was comfortable and they had a pillow menu from which you can order the type that you prefer.

I stayed in room 749. The room could do with a bit of renovation here and there. For example the floors were badly scratched, and the bathroom ceiling had some mold which was quite unfortunate. The staff did however say that the rooms were going to be reconditioned.
One thing that impressed me was the fold-out fruit pamphlet that explained the different types of fruits. It can be overwhelming if you aren’t family with Asian fruits, but this sort of prepares you if you don’t want to just start eating right away.

Pools & Beach
There are three swimming pools: one very large one with small islands in the middle that have trees; a kids pool with slides and a sand pit complete with toys and umbrellas for kids to enjoy; and one that I discovered by chance near the Thai spirit house which feels more private.

Throughout the pool area there were plenty of sun chairs. This is great because not all resorts cater for such large crowds of guests and you often have to ‘reserve’ your spot . There are also tables and salas beside the pool to protect you from the sun, rain, or if you would like to enjoy a meal there instead of at The Restaurant.

I enjoyed spending time in the spacious Jacuzzi. The temperature was just right and it was surrounded mostly by trees and plants. With this resort being right by the beach, it’s convenient for walks or a run. Massages beside the beach or swimming pools are also available and for a lower price than the spa.

The Club Lounge
This was particularly useful on my stay because it rained on and off. So the lounge was the perfect place to have afternoon tea which was served 2pm-5pm.
And of course Happy Hour from 5.30pm-7.30pm. They provided canapes and alcoholic beverages. The Lounge could be more organized with replenishing the canapes as that took a while and was even a bit empty at times. That said, it’s definitely worth paying the little bit extra, especially if you plan to stay at the resort for the night, or if you enjoy having a pre-dinner aperitif.
There’s plenty of sitting space in the lounge as well as outside facing the ocean. They also have computers if you need to do something urgent or print a document.

At Night
The resort transforms into a sort of a magical place with draped fairy lights at the pond and also at the coconut trees. It’s worth checking it out. There is also an Italian restaurant for alfresco dining and a few other restaurants to have dinner at. I only ordered food from the Sala Thip Poolside Terrace restaurant and I have to say that their prices seemed more than reasonable.

Breakfast
What I liked about breakfast was that Club Guests had access to a private, carpeted room away from other patrons. What’s more, is that you get served a bottomless glass of sparkling wine with your breakfast! Talk about kick starting your day! And to be honest, who can say know to bubbles? 🙂
Besides the drink, they also had a few dishes in the adjacent room that other guests didn’t have access to. The service was also very attentive and the waiters remembered our preferred drinks after the first breakfast.
Now if you prefer to have a lie in, you can have the continental breakfast in the Club Lounge that’s served from 10am-2pm – but no sparkling wine.

The Spa
The Devarana Spa has a wonderful spa which I was fortunate enough to try out. The decor is minimalistic and the staff take very good care of you from beginning to end. I found their service quite professional and definitely worth the try. You have to walk across the parking to get to it though which is a bit of a schlep, but I just politely asked the buggy service to take and fetch me.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the resort and I hope to visit again soon.
